Geez, guys. You'd think we were talking about a Cardinal Sin. This is an audio company adjusting software code. I'm pleased that Oppo does it faster, but if their original BDP-95 firmware was so perfect there would be no need for additional updates, right? McIntosh is no different, albeit a wee bit slower. This is about audio, a hobby, not life and death. Looking at world events for some perspective, this doesn't amount to a minuscule freckle on a pretty red head's nose.

Wow. Seems to me we as consumers are getting screwed. If a company makes a piece of bad equipment it should have to pay a price.

The idea that it's OK for McIntosh to have bad product and not stand behind them because many other manufacturers also do the same strikes me as, well, bizarre.

Full disclosure, I'm an OPPO beta tester. I also own McIntosh product.

OPPO can move so fast, I can tell them about a glitch or error, and it can be corrected for me to test out in literally days. That firmware gets rolled out later to the general public, and at much slower pace, but OPPO users know to expect new firmware every few months (on current models), especially if there are glitches impacting a large number of users.

eljr.......I have a 44 year history of owning and enjoying McIntosh gear. What company have you supported and enjoyed for that length of time? I am willing to work with this company because they have worked with me. There are very few, if any, audio companies with as rich a history, or a catalog depth of gear brought to market, as McIntosh. Yes, there have been some challenges for them in the digital domain, but that is no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water. Yes, I am willing to make an exception for McIntosh, and quite frankly I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about it. My home is full of McIntosh equipment that I love. It will most likely be passed on to my heirs in what I hope will be the distant future. To each their own.

I don't know if the MCD1100 is poor product or not. I do however feel strongly that companies should have to stand behind their products.

I know that in the past McIntosh has not.

I also know that when I owned the MCD201 (several of them) they also sounded wonderful, when they worked.

I can understand the frustration the op feels. He comes here to vent, rightly so IMHO and we as an audio community are telling him to take his lumps because we all do.

To me that's sound like poor advise.

If we are all honest, we know that we cut McIntosh slack that we don't cut others because we love it. We don't want to see our lovers imperfections and short comings. It's human nature.

But they are there.
