Default Crossover for adding a sub.

Adding a JL f113 sub to a 2-channel system, who makes the best x-over?

Bryston 10B?

System: C2200, MVP861, MCD205, MR78, MC1201's and B&W 802D's.

Bryston 10B SUB is an excellent crossover. I used it with 2 F112s. Bryston Limited - Music For A Generation

I use an all balanced version. Here is a review on the 10B SUB. http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/b...crossover.html

When I called JL tech support with the same question, they highly recommended a Marchand XM9LSAA for 1/4 the price of the Bryston.
They also recommended 2 F112's instead of 1 F113.

You get what you pay for. The Bryston is all discrete class A circuitry for transparency and minimal sonic signature without veiling the sound.

Marchand

Bryston.

"All crossover selections are extremely accurate and repeatable, being implemented with 1% selected metal-film resistors and polystyrene capacitors. All switches are heavily gold-plated, for lifetime protection from corrosion. The level controls are precise 1 dB increments, also derived from gold-plated switches and 1% metal-film resistors. Most important, however, is that the Bryston 10B Crossover uses NO integrated circuits in the signal path. All internal buffer and amplification stages are Bryston's exceedingly linear and superbly quiet discrete op-amp circuitry. This means the signal is always maintained as "Audiophile Quality", with stability and freedom from noise and distortion unapproached in other crossovers. "

Very interesting comparison.
JL is a high quality product.
I wonder why the guy at JL's tech support would be recommending a lower quality product?

Probably being humble. But just because something "works" doesn't mean there isn't something that works even better...

Did they mention any Marchand reviews?

They told me 2 F112's also.
