Well, the solar eclipse was a major success, one of the most amazing visual sights I've ever seen. The family left around 9:30 in the morning to head up to Clemson, SC. There was a non-eclipse related major accident on 85 north which delayed us over an hour, so we didn't arrive until 12 noon. Since we were cutting it close, we decided to have lunch in Anderson, SC and just hang out there.....the Starbucks next door had a nice patio etc. along with a bunch of other watchers. We ended up only about 5 miles south of the center line, so we had about 2:30 of totality. All I can say is if you have the opportunity to see the next one, try and take it because it really was amazing.....my wife said it was much better than she expected. Seeing it turn dark with the sun's corona blazing was by far the most impressive natural vision I've ever experienced. One of the coolest things was how you had a 360 degree sunrise/sunset as well, since the moon's shadow directly overhead was round, the sky was a slight pink at the entire horizon around you. Anyway, it really was an amazing sight. Now, the drive home on 85 south back to Atlanta.........that was another matter which we shall never speak of again.

- Buck

Default Glendo, WY Eclipse

We found a great spot 20 miles west of Glendo, WY high on a ridge in the Medicine Bow National Forest. While a picture can't really match the experience, here's what totality looked like. These were taken with a Nikon D7000 with an 18-200 zoom, handheld. So not the best quality but shold give you an idea of what it was really like.

The air was dry, and perfectly clear. We could see the corona out to three sun diameters. The dot to the left and slightly down is the planet Mercury. We could also see Venus, very bright but further away.

We had my Questar 3.5" scope with a solar filter to watch the partial eclipse progress. Totality was amazing with the 'scope. You could see lots of prominences and the corona was beautiful.

2024 here we come!

OK, I'll bite! the 2017 Eclipse was not my first rodeo. I took this pic on March 10, 1970 in Kinston NC.

I was 14 years old. I used a Graflex 3 1/4" x 4 1/4" sheet film camera. It was a multiple exposure sequenced shot that had to be carefully planned and perfectly executed. The partial shots were taken 5 minutes apart with an ND5 filter, totality was wide open.
