I will be In St. Thomas next week &...
I will be In St. Thomas next week & would like to purchase a new watch. My Tag leaked on a dive last month and they want $600.00 to repair it
 . I've heard you can get them from an authorized dealer there at a good discounted price. I'm leaning toward a Seamaster Planet Ocean. Any advice for this watch and/or buying in St. Thomas?Thx.

I find that many US jewelers are happy to offer a little discount on high dollar watches - especially with the current state of our economy - and $800 - $1,000 off on a $4,000 watch wouldn't be too unusual. Jewelers need cash flow too. . . .
I was in St. Thomas in February though, and didn't shop for watches, but found the jewelers willing to "haggle" on jewelry. I did notice that the posted prices on watches (Rolex, Breitling, IWC, Patek Philippe) were just about the same as Atlanta prices.

I just came back from st Thomas last week. You can get better deals in the u.s. I would imagine you should get between 25 to 40 percent off of list. 40 would be really good, but I would think 25 percent should not be too tough.

I agree. Although the prices are very good in St. Thomas and St. Marteen, I have done better in New York and Dallas. You also have to deal with the customs/duty issue if you buy in St. Marteen.
I must say the selection is usually very good in St. Thomas. Have fun. Jim
