Default Which Mc mono's for Cremona M's and which for Elipsas?

When I heard both of these back at my dealer in Tempe I thought they were both powered by 501's but can't remember...I do remember loving the Cremona M's and being amazed by the elipsas.

I know they can handle the Cremona M's but can 501's adequately supply the Elipsas? They're rated at 300 aren't they? I'd think the 501's would have plenty of reserve for them, what's your experience? If I need to start budgeting for 1.2kw's I had better start now.

For a speaker like that I'd say start at the 1.2KW's. Sure its more power than you'll ever need/use, but it's all about HEADROOM!

I using the MC252 with the Cremona 3 way floor standing model and it sounds great, 1 watt drives them to 90 db at 4 ohm. If I have great sound with the MC252, the 501 should be more than plenty.

I am not going to argue with KMC45 because he listens to the Elipsas with 1.2KWs daily (and also had MC501s) - and there is no substitute for direct experience. But I've heard the Elipsas with 501s several times and they really "sang" beautifully with no hint of running out of gas even at very loud levels.

As with the 252, 352 402 vs 501 debates, it's not just a matter of watts but of "tone" and dynamics. I have no trouble believing that the 1.2KWs sound better, or at least different, than the 501s.

If I had the money, and the room, I'd probably go all-out and get the 1.2s - so I would not wonder about it.

Alberto

I sure would like to hear what the 1.2k's would sound like with the Stradivari's.

No need to call Ivan, it's not in the cards at this time.

There are some things I can get by my wife when it comes to audio, but she knows woofers and tweeters when she sees them.

Quite honestly, the MC501's would power the Elipsa just fine, they have done so for me.
