Jax

Tonight they will sound like crap for the first hour, then will be so much better than the VX5 you'll be very happy. It'll be like a light turned on. This will be good for 3 or 4 hours. Tomorrow it'll be down hill and then all over the place for many weeks.

What spk cables are you using?

They improved substantially with 2 dedicated ac lines vs. 1. 2 are mandatory IMO.
They respond to different placement/spikes/isolation schemes. I'm still experimenting.
They love the Shunyata Typhon in parallel, one on each amp. I use Anaconda Z PC's right now, willing to bet Sigma HC's will be stellar on them.
Never turn them off or put them in standby
And, of course black Ayre sounds best
I was wondering how your Typhon's were sounding ! I agree on the dual dedicated lines (I did this too). I just got to try a Sigma HC vs a Anaconda Zitron (into my Triton)..much prefer the Sigma HC-pretty sure you're right on sigma HC's to the MXR's...

I leave mine on 24x7 unless going out of town for a bit...

As far as isolation, i've tried Finite Elemente Master Pagode...then a Grand Prix Monaco amp stand and now a Grand Prix Silverstone F1 Formula...the better the power and the better the isolation..the better the already fantastic MXR's...

Speakers: Rockport Altair 2
Preamp: Robert Koda K10 Amp: Ayre MX-R
Cables: Transparent Opus MM2 Spkr, Opus Gen 5 Interconnect
Power Shunyata Triton/Typhon/DPC-6, Anaconda Zitron cords (x9), Sigma HC (x1)
Digital dCS Vivaldi DAC, Transport & Clock w/ Transparent Reference XL Digital cables
Phono: Grand Prix Monaco TT, Spiral Groove Centroid, Jan Allaerts MC2 Finish & Lyra Atlas, Nagra VPS/VFS
Racks: Grand Prix Audio Silverstone F1 (x2)

Hah, this is very much me too. I've yet to buy room treatments, but that is actually next on my list. I made a thread to discuss it (here: http://www.audioaficionado.org/gik-a...ning-room.html), but my circumstances changed (might be working in the UK for a few months) so that's on hold now!

Also, a question for you guys with MX-R's, did you then have 3 dedicated AC lines brought to your system, 1 for each power amp, and 1 for the rest?

Originally 2 dedicated ac lines, one for source and one for VX5
When the the MXR20's arrived, plugged both into one line...OK
Ran a 3rd line, one for eack amp and VIOLA....much better.
BTW I ran 12/2 20 amp lines. My next move is 2 30 amp 10/2 lines for the amps....

Usng Shunyata Anaconda SC.

With only a few hours, sonds amazing. Bass is deeper and more articulate. Instruments sound (shockingly so) like the real thing. Can't do two dedicated lines in my rental home, but will do when I move soon. Big wow, and I know much break in lies ahead.
I don't even have my Shunyata power cables yet...Sigma HC PC's here any day now.

Not the best picture, but here they are. Amplifier stands arriving around Friday.

Temporarily using Shunyata Venom 3 PCs until the Sigmas arrive, hopefully this weekend.....

Funny story: when setting up the monoblocks, I was feverishly searching for the balanced/unbalanced selector, which is on the VX-5 amp. I had forgotten that the MX-R is balanced connection only, so Ayre doesn't need the selector.

The Cardas binding post knob is slightly different than the VX-5. It seems more comfortable to tighten, for some reason...

The burn in continues. Only been playing them six days, so pretty far to go still. Deeply impressed so far.

My speakers are showing a new level of performance due to these mono amps.
