Luxman L-590AX Mark II
A few days ago I decided to pull the trigger on my first Luxman.
This the L-590AX Mark II, Class A integrated. 30/60w into 8/4 ohms with additional headroom to 2x95W and 2x165W into 8/4ohm and electronic protection activating at 303W and 170W into 2/1ohm loads, respectively. Seems Luxman "sandbagged" the actual horsepower on this one, with the "Class A" spec being the main objective. Good to have the extra HP on reserve. It's been on for 24hrs burning in and I've been listening to it on and off. First impressions are very positive. Seems to have very good grip on the Harbeth 30.2 which sound effortless, open and engaging with this pairing. The voicing is typical Class A smoothness, with just a sprinkle of warmth through the mid-band and smooth but plenty extended and sweet treble. Virtually no grain and not a trace of harshness with this solid state integrated. It still needs to break in some more and I will follow up as the break in is complete. Loving the new "faster" Vu Meters. Here is a quick video of my new Luxman. https://youtu.be/uo6ODDP1fJk Last edited by PHC1; 02-14-2018 at 04:46 PM. |

Congrats Serge, it looks and sounds great in the video! Those meters are hypnotic and I'm working on adding the Luxman M-900u to my C-900u as soon as possible!

Congrats!
Of all the gear I have sold, my greatest regret was selling my L-590AX I tried to send you a PM but you have exceeded your data storage quota!

The PrimaLuna HP is quite magical with these same speakers but ultimately will drive a smaller pair in another room. The PrimaLuna was a no risk addition for me knowing its destiny in the smaller room but also a good experiment to see what the 30.2 would demand and if I could get away with a lower power Class A solid state. I had no idea at the time the L-509 puts out so much more than specs.

Solid plan Bill. That should be a great pair. I could not allow myself to spend quite that much..

Greg, PM should be ok now. That one regret is fortunately easy enough to deal with.

Following the "break-in-recipe" that was shared with me. Supposedly straight from the workshop of Nelson Pass. Nelson knows a thing or two about Class A gear. It goes like this:
5 straight days of fully powered on and alternating between playing music and being on overnight. 5 days of 12 hours on and 12 hours off completely, unplugged. Done. |
