Serge.......Interesting read. Thanks.

I certainly appreciate your enthusiasm for the McIntosh XR200 speakers. I like them, too, and have given them consideration for a place in my studio.

Your comment about PMC not being able to keep up with fast pitch changes in jazz music is certainly not duplicated in my system with the PMC EB1i speakers, nor is your one note bass comment accurate according to my experiences. The EB1i is as quick a speaker as I have ever heard. To be honest, I am not even sure I know what you mean by not being fast enough. The bass is rich, musical, accurately textured, and capable of great dynamics, as well as going very deep. The transmission line loading of the 10 inch Nomex and carbon fiber driver delivers far more bass performance than one note, by a long shot.

Comments such as yours cause me to wonder where you auditioned the PMC speakers you commented on, how they were set up, and what associated equipment was used, including interconnects and speaker cables. Many things influence a speaker's sound, and that would include the XR200's.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion of PMC speakers. Personally, I don't agree with either of your comments.
Why post about PMC speakers in a thread about Mcintosh XR200s in the first place? No speakers are perfect including PMC and certainly not close to perfect at this price point. PMC is boring to me. A single 10 inch drive usually can do great output but it is not too difficult to outperform a single ten. It also sounds like PMC has the midrange, "jacked up." The XR200 is vastly better in bass articulation and a level above the PMC in that department. Mcintosh is conservative with their specs. I think the XR00 is also better balanced with no part of the spectrum, "jacked up." While PMC list output at 19hz, what's the roll off point? It has to be a rather substantial roll-off with the single ten. I mean even dedicated subs with a single 10 driver roll off substantially down there. I have heard the XR200 now in three different set-ups. Superb at the price point. The imaging seems improved over the older XRT28 and not as confined to a sweet spot. Anyway, enough about PMC, isn't there a thread on those speakers somewhere?

Kevin M.......Why bring up PMC speakers? Well, lets see. My initial comment was I'd like to hear the XR200 against the PMC EB1i. That was in context with the thread. Then your post followed declaring PMC speakers ugly, which of course had nothing to do with this thread. I responded, you responded, and now I'm bored with the adversarial tone. Buy a pair of XR200's if they turn you on, and be happy.

I understand that you believe PMC speakers are better than Mcintosh from your past post when they have been discussed. So I am like, here he goes again . There is no one speaker that everyone will like. I understand and believe you sincerely consider PMC speakers to be better than Mcintosh. I respect that. There are some amps that other companies make that I slightly prefer to Mcintosh. However the sum total of what I get from Mcintosh in terms of support, especially from Ron-c and Chuck, reliablity, stability and traditon keep me buying these amps . NOW with the speakers, you can just ignore all of those comments because that is not why I buy them. I just flat prefer the sound of Mcintosh speakers. I am buying the XR200 because they are the best damn speaker I have heard anywhere near this price point. They are absolutely wonderful for the price and a homerun. "Heartbreaker," by the Rolling Stones is an excellent track to hear bass guitar transitions. These speakers are excellent on that track. If you like the Stones, get ready to start "jammin" if you play that track on these speakers. They really kick arse. Now I have to campaign for a matching center channel! My LS360s have been great speakers that I have had for almost 8 years. Once I heard the XR200, I realized they were a clear improvement and it was time for me to upgrade. I believe the XR200 will provide as many years of service as the LS360 has.
