Anyhow it is out of my limits at the moment. I gonna start new CoE in January 2015, then will see. Plans: to take some monoblocks of line "point8" without preamp, my AMR DP-777 works as pre with good result.

The point 8s do a nice job separating individual instruments in complex orchestral music and the bass is very good. On the minus column, its voicing it's warmer than I like and the sound is not as airy as that from the point 5s.

I'll keep listening for another week, but my feeling so far is that the performance change in my system is not significant enough to make the investment to go from the XA100.5 to the point 8s.

I'll keep it on 24/7 and will keep playing music.
Did more listening today - impressions remain the same.

Oh well.

I tried and tried, but I could not get the XA100.8s to integrate into my system and have decided to send them back.

Somehow the units I received sounded rolled off in the mids and highs with my gear.

It was an interesting experience to lust after these newer amps for months and then receiving them and not being able to make them work in my system.

The silver lining is that I scratched the upgrade itch and won't have to make the significant cash outlay to move up the food chain. This experience has given me a new appreciation for keeping a system mostly intact if everything seems fine with it.

Thanks for taking the ride with me...

Shows how difficult it is to keep coming out with new products once you have created something that sounds as good as the 100.5's sound

Actually the point 8 was a step backwards in my system compared to the point 5, but I might have had a defective model.

I'm glad I tried it and got to hear it with my own ears.

Carlos,

Sorry the XA-100.8's didn't work out for you. But you are none the worse for wear. You have an absolutely marvelous system from time to bottom, which you probably appreciate all the more now. Now you can sit back and enjoy the holidays with some fine classical music!

Best,
Ken
