I have a pair of original 8417 Quicksilver monos. Very open mid-range. Lovely little amps.

...
That little integrated with eight EL84s is a neat little amp.

Stock input/driver tubes used in Mono 120s: new production JJ with EI Yugoslavia. They sounded okay, a little forward with 50ma bias.
Sounding even better at 150hrs burn-in. Amazing with mid-1960s Mullard short box plates for ECC82/12AU7 input tubes and 12AT7 driver tubes. . Last edited by decooney; 02-08-2020 at 02:47 AM. |

tima, By chance are you keeping an extra stash of 8417 output tubes around? If not, I see Mike@QS offers an alternative conversion service, and while not quite real triode, he converts them to EL34s for customers at a fairly reasonable price. Curios if anyone has done the conversion and how it turned out. -------- Last edited by decooney; 07-25-2019 at 08:45 PM. |

My "dealer" friend sells QS. He has the line stage pre, and it sounds even better than the JC2 pre-amp he uses most of the time for demo's (I use a JC2 in my system). I'd buy one, but I "need" a remote control and I prefer (not sure why) to use balanced (xlr) cables. If you've not listened to the QS linestage (non-remote version) - you really should because it's fantastic. And less than $1500!!!???
