Pete.......Despite David's intimation that the PS Audio Power Plant Premier is just an expensive surge protector, which is an exaggeration and discredit to the product, the PPP is first and foremost an A/C re-generator, and clean power delivery system. It is also a voltage regulation system, able to raise or lower output voltage, thereby delivering a stable 120 volts A/C output despite what the public utility transformer is delivering to your home. As an added feature, yes it provides surge protection.

Any time a power conditioning component can turn 5% total harmonic distortion on the incoming A/C line into 0.5% total harmonic distortion at the A/C output with a perfect 60 cycle wave form, your audio components benefit tremendously. Whether the benefit manifests itself as quieter background, lower noise floor, more transparency, improved dynamics, increased details, or all of the above simultaneously, everything that comes out of your sound system components and speakers begins with the voltage and current that flows from the wall receptacle. The cleaner the A/C entering your audio components, the better the quality of the sonic output.

I agree with Ivan's comment, "The system has to be able to resolve the diferrence...", and would add that the listener has to pay attention to what he is hearing from his system. The improvements are audible, one just needs to simply focus on the single task of listening without diversions. The benefits provided by the Power Plant Premier are very real, audible, and worthwhile.

Pete, I agree with you here. I also question the THD reading on my two units and wish there was a inexpensive way of verifying the readouts. I understand there will be some differences through the day but I still question mine since after running Clean Wave they went up and have never really come back down.

Jim.......There is a way to test the quality of the voltage at your home, and check the readings on the PPP's, unfortuately is doesn't come cheap. Fluke makes the model 43B Power Quality Analyzer. It measures voltage, current, power harmonics, total harmonic distortion (THD), phase angle of individual harmonics, captures voltage sags, transients and inrush current. The Fluke 43B's monitoring functions help track intermittent problems and power system performance. The FlukeView software can log harmonics and all other readings over time and provides a complete harmonics profile up to the 51st harmonic ($2850.00). This is reasonable considering bench type harmonic distortion analyzers can run $20K or more.

In a interesting exchange with PSA, I discovered that these units operate best on a daily basis at 1200W output, with the 1500W spec being for brief peaks. Now I get why many here have more than one, besides having ridiculous amounts of gear in ridiculously good-sounding systems.
