I'm looking for a pair of smaller speakers to pair with my E-600. Any suggestions?

As suggested above you could check out DeVore - I am running DeVore O/96 with my Accuphase E600 (and DC37 + C37). It’s a wonderful combination that works great in particular for Jazz and Rock. The O/93 would be nice small footprint speaker and may work. And then there is the smaller Gibbon series all of which would be happy with the 30W of the E-650.

And as mentioned, for classical I would take the Graham LS5/9. Beautiful tonal balance and separation of instruments, very natural and clear sound. I prefer the Graham to Harbeth model for its clarity, refinement and detail.

I did some research on both but I can't get over their looks...a bit too 'boxy' perhaps?

I have made a small list but I haven't heard any of those yet. It also depends a bit on what's for sale at the moment since I don't want to buy new.

- SF GH or the Palladio, have also seen the Olympica 1 but I don't thing these play in the same league
- B&W 802D2/D3. Have heard the D2's when I bought the E-600, pretty decent
- Dynaudio C1 seem to get rave reviews, not sure how they compare to Special 40's.

Some day I will own the accuphase integrated and Devore combo. Some day, as I suspect it would be spectacular.

What do you consider small? Monitor or floor-standing?

Monitor, currently have JBL 250Ti Jubilees but I can't get them far enough from the back wall, besides that they're simply too big.

A pair of floor standing speakers that don't bother about standing 25cm from the back wall and which aren't wider than ~40cm would suffice too.

I had the E600 with Devore Silverback mk2 on demo for a week a few years ago. The combo was excellent! Just make sure you feed the E600 good cables. Made a huge difference.

Have been quite pleased with the Canton 9K Reference w/matching stands after an inordinately long break-in (5-600hr). Was also very pleased with the Focal 1008BeII's they replaced. Thought the Focal Sopra No.1 were great, but were a new offering and it would have been a few months wait to get the color I preferred (probably should have waited). The Harbeth 30.1 was very 'musical' with just a hint of congestion in the lower-mids. Makes me wonder if their reference 30.2 might take care of that problem. The Joseph Audio Pearl is another speaker that receives terrific reviews.

Based on your criteria of 25cm from the back wall, you might want either a front or bottom ported or sealed-box speaker.
