Default This robot can Jump!

Not content with simply walking or carrying objects, Atlas, made by the robotics firm Boston Dynamics, can now jump across gaps, jump and spin 180°, and – most impressive of all – it can backflip, even using its arms to balance after landing just like a real gymnast.

Lee Sedol March 12th 2016, “I felt kind of powerless.”

Interesting video and this represents a huge leap in robotics. Thanks for sharing. For myself AI will emerge as the 3rd “black swan” event in the journey of the human condition. The first being the emergence of agriculture around 10 to 12 thousand years ago. The second being the emergence of the industrial revolution in the mid-1800’s. For better or worse the potential for “unsupervised learning” will arise and properties will emerge that will be completely unexpected and possibly undetected with a significant impact on humanity. It is not unlike the emergence of water, an inert liquid at room temperature, that is produced under certain conditions from 2 radically different and volatile gases at the same room temperature.

Regards

What shocks me is how human-like its movements are. When I first watched it on my IPhone, I thought it was a joke with a man in a robot suit!

Check this out...the same robot walking on its own over rough, uneven, snow-covered terrain through the forest...without hitting any trees.

Then check out the guy teasing him with shuffling a box....incredible.
