Anyone have issues Mc monos on the 802d3? I came from a 302 which sounded sweet, but swapping to 611’s has been a real headache. The 802’s seem to get a massive soundstage off the new 611 Mac, but it sounds off and fatiguing. I have messed with speaker placement to no avail. I’m wondering if I got a bad batch of monos, not getting full strength off the 15 amp line or what. I thought of room acoustics, but that wouldn’t change with a different amp.

What tap are you running them off? You might also find you need to alter the room placement of the speakers - i had to fiddle around with my 800’s when I switched from a 452 to 1.2KW monos to get them sounding right

I read about this before somewhere, but don't recall exactly where. The post mentioned the exact same thing, the new McIntosh amps sound very different, for example, the 611 sounds very different from the 601.

I have not tested it myself, but it is not the first time it has been mentioned and your case could be similar.

I have 802D3 connected to 611 via 8 ohm taps. Sound great to my ears. I did not try to connect to 4 ohm as I think the 802 can go to 3 ohms.

You could try connecting to the 4ohm taps just to try - I prefer the 8ohm taps but some prefer 4ohm from what I’ve read.

I haven’t personally heard them connected to 611’s, only 601’s and they sounded good but did prefer the 1.2KW’s to these which is another story.

Have the amps had plenty of run-in time? I’d also try different positioning in you room in case they need different placement...

I have installed the Gaia 1’s under my 800D3’s on my timber floors. Very happy with the result - there is another post about this in a separate thread...
