Are you guys with 2 subs running them stereo or summed (master/slave)?

Have you tried it both ways?

Mono, master/slave sounded better in my family room system (2 f113's)
Also using 2 Genelic subs in HT in mono. Just sounded better. More output at less volume. __________________________________________________ _______________ |

Yes. The subs running as independent masters create a more spacious, more palpable soundstage but it depends on the recording. I guess some recordings sum the low bass while others throw a bit more low bass into L or R channel.

Not sure I would hear my subs that low, with the music I play. Maybe the Munster Cathedral 4 organs? |

Yes because the subs make a noticeable difference when on. Don't forget the crossover point is not a "brick wall filter", even at the higher dB/octave points the output does "creep up" well above 22Hz. An "octave" is the span between one musical pitch and another double or half the frequency of the first. The "slope" of the crossover is so many dB's down at double the frequency point then.

Is this due to there being two drivers, or because there are two subs in stereo mode? In other words, does something like Thor's Hammer or a Gotham count as one sub or two, because they have two drivers?

Those would both be single subs even though they have multiple drivers.

I'm glad I went with a stereo pair driven as Masters. I've been playing a lot music and the difference is just stunning. I can switch them on and off (thanks Dan) and find that the presentation will collapse or expand depending if they are on or off.
I had them set a bit hot (gain) until the better half "suggested" I use up some battery on the SPL meter. She was right. Now they do not draw as much attention to themselves. Much better in a supporting role vice the lead. Gordon |
