I don't really have a "local" dealer. The closes is in Santa Barbara, about 2 hours or so drive. I have gone there a couple of times and came away with a bad image. Not of McIntosh, but of the dealership.

They have a "kid", or to me a kid anyway who is the only one who "knows" the equipment. This guy acts like a no-it-all, but in fact I felt he knows very little.

I used to manage semi-hi end stereo stores back in the day. My absolute first rule was, if you do not know the correct answer do not BS. Instead politely say I do not know the answer to that question but I will do my best to find the answer. Customers appreciate that a whole lot more than some one who always snaps a quick answer... especially when you later find out that his answer(s) were wrong.

Needless to say, I do not make that trip to Santa Barbara any more.

Randy,

I feel your pain, believe me, I experienced much of the same when I was driving around the DC area auditioning speakers.

I visited a dealer to audition some Dynaudio's. I was the only one in the store during my visit. They had the AC cranked up so high, the sound of the air rushing thru the vents was nearly as loud as the speakers. When I asked if they could shut down the AC for a few minutes, the owner said that, since I didn't "make an appointment", he wasn't willing to do that.

I felt that I spent a significant amount of time with a commissioned salesperson, went to hand him my card when I was about to leave, he said they didn't take cards from customers.

Too bad for Dynaudio, I bought Focal's instead.

So I dropped Mc a note. I got an immediate and satisfying reply from Chuck. Answered my question and thanked me for the biz. Resolution and good feelings.

Simply amazing how bad some dealers are, and what a negative impact it can have not only on their reputation, but that of the equipment that they sell.

# 1 rule in sales:

The customer may not always be right, but the customer is always the customer.

My major complaint with McIntosh is I keep coming back to their gear. I buy something else for a year or two and then I'm back to McIntosh. Cost me too much money. Been going on for 30yr+. Maybe I should just say 'mea culpa' to McIntosh and stop bothering with other gear. I'm doing my best.

I started buying McIntosh in 1968. If it doesn't say McIntosh it doesn't go in the rack. Has saved me money while offering best value and sound quality.
