Default Which speakers to match McIntosh systems ?

It would be great to hear your opinions on this. Especially, as there are people from all over the globe on this forum and opinions, personal taste and product range will probably differ in different countries/continents.

I myself have ended with a more or less obvious and not very spectacular setup, matching McIntosh Pre-/Poweramps with B&W 802 Diamonds. I also thought they work with Sonus Faber - as I`m more of a rock/alternative listener though, I preferred the B&Ws with the Macs. JmLab/Focal on the other hand did not work at all for me.

Maybe some totally new "configuration" can be found though, as some speakers may not be as popular in one country as in another - it`d be fantastic to hear your thoughts/experience on this.

Hello Bruno-

I put my first Mc system together about 14 years ago and considered the B & W 802's and the Mc LS 360's. Close decision but chose the 360's as they seemed less finicky in set up and a "better match" to an all Mc system. More importantly, got a great deal on a used pair.

Upgrading various components in the past few years, replaced the 360's with Legacy Focus SE's. Very happy with the sound, fuller and richer and about 6 db more efficient. Also, a great value and great customer service. If there is a dealer within a reasonable distance they are worth an audition.

good luck with your search.

Hi John,
thanks for your post. I`m actually not really "searching" - just wanted to share opinions and experience. This way, maybe, one can find a combination that never occured to them before. For now I find the 802s a great match - especially the diamond.

Just interesting to hear other opinions - such as yours. Obviously it is also always strongly subjective.

I think McIntosh Tube amps do well with Electrostats and Electrostat hybrids... My Mc275s hit some sweet high end notes with my ML Electrostats.

I've actually never seen or heard Legacy speakers... Don't seem to be that well known this side of the pond...
