I currently have Cremona Auditor Ms, which I like very much, but have been thinking about an upgrade. I have a fairly small room (12' x 23') and, because of the way it's laid out the speakers have to be on the long wall with the listening position almost against the opposite wall, about 10' from the speakers. The room opens on the right side of my listening chair to an L which extends the overall width to 27', and behind the chair is a brick wall. Because of the room size and configuration I've tended towards smaller speakers, but believe it or not my wife prefers floor standers because she thinks bookshelf speakers don't look like "real speakers." She really likes the SF look (as do I) but once commented that bookshelf speakers look like we couldn't afford bigger ones.

I've been considering, among others, Guarneri Evolution, Focal Sopra 2, and Wilson Sabrinas (a long shot, neither my wife nor I care for the Wilson looks all that much). I prefer to buy from a dealer within driving distance. I may now have an opportunity to pick up a pair of demo Amati Futuras at a serious discount (not sure of price yet.) What do you guys think of these speakers in a room my size, would they overpower the room? Would they work only 2-3' out from the wall? Is anyone running AFs in a room about this size?

Tony, if you have the dough, go for it!
They will not overpower your room and will be a serious upgrade.
I've heard them in a rather small room, and in a large room, and they always sounded great.

Ha, your wife is like mine: she preferred the bigger Giyas over the B1s.

Tony.......You will be thrilled with the Sonus faber Amati Futura's in that room. Your room is not too small. I have a pair of Amati Anniversario speakers in my studio system where the room is 11.5' x 14.5'. Once dialed into the room for proper bass loading and toe-in for sound stage, the Amati Anniversario's sound spectacular. I previously had SF Cremona Auditor's, followed by SF Guarneri Memento speakers in the same room. Surprisingly, the Amati Anniversario's consume approximately the same footprint space as the Guarneri Memento's did. I have the Amati Anniversario's approximately 30" from the wall behind them. The Amati Futura's you are considering will work perfectly for you.

Fully agree! My room is considerably smaller and I am using the Elipsa SE's (which you may want to consider as an option as well). Your room and view are beautiful!

Dan, Bart, Esteban, thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Sounds like I'm more worried about the size in my room than I need to be. I'll be stopping by my dealer in the next few days to audition the speakers and talk possibilities.

Wow, the living room looks beautiful. A bigger carpet along with Amati Futuras, please.

Tony, I just moved my 2 channel from an extra bedroom (14ft. X 11ft. - 9ft. ceiling) to my main living area for other reasons, but my Amati Futuras were just fine in there... your room is even better. If you like the SF sound, I'd say go for it if you can. Good luck with your decision!
