Default McIntosh MHA-100 headphone amplifier question

Do any of our members here own one? What are your impressions? I am curious about this really attractive headphone amp!

I don't own one, but I have auditioned it at AudioClassics. I am still considering using it as a integrated amp for my secondary system.

The MHA100 and the MXA70 are identical in all aspects.

It is actually quite impressive and somewhat compact in nature for McIntosh, but a bit pricey I think. Certainly, is quite attractive and worthy of consideration.

Rock, thanks for the feedback! They are both appealing to me as an elegant solution for apartment/office small systems!

Unfortunately, the autoformers do not work with outboard speaker load, just internal headphone amp.

Hmm... Well I guess it really is a headphone amp first and foremost. A bit disappointing though.

With your level of appreciation for quality and performance, I do not believe you would be happy with the MHA-100. In your current situation, something like the MA6700 would work very nicely. A single all-in-one unit (amp/pre-amp/DAC/FM). It has the normal McIntosh chassis dimensions, autoformer construction topology, and classic black glass and blue meters aesthetics. Except for quad-balance, it has all the latest McIntosh technologies. It will easily power virtually any speaker and will last a lifetime or bring more in the marketplace should you ever decide to sell.

No, this would definitely be more of an additional unit to the future main system. I thought given my current living space it would suffice until I move. I'm thinking about it.

I don't own one but auditioned it at RMAF. As a headphone amp, I felt it was lacking. At that price range, you are much better off buying from a company that specializes in headphone amps such as Woo Audio.
