Dan,

Where you in the same state as your gear when you snapped this picture? I mean, with my 452s, I've never gone past 50W and the whole house shakes. The only time I drew more power without my head exploding like scanners is when I played some classical vinyl with organ...

Dan.......Sure, you can be an honorary member but only if you have a receipt for a deposit on 601's that you can show us. . . .

As far as being a one man club I say:

"Build It And They Will Come" .

Dan:

Is the "headroom" created because the meter has gone just a bit south of 1.2K and the amp is not "stressing." So, the "headroom" is because the amp is able to push a lot of "juice?", i.e. lots of power and not break a sweat?

Headroom is when you have the power to handle spikes in the frequency that's in the music.

Dan will explain it far better than me.

Mahalo.......Headroom, as we use the term in audio, refers to the amount of available output power above the amplifier's full rated power before any significant increase in distortion occurs. As an example, 3dB of headroom would require a doubling of an amplifier's full rated power.

So, in your photo of the 601's meter, the 600 watt position has been passed and the meter is just below the 1.2K mark and so the 601 went to almost double it's rated output. And the spread between the 600 watt position and the meter just below the 1.2K position is the headroom?

Marcos.......I was sitting in my living room enjoying a fabulous performance of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Tin Pan Alley". The sound was sweet, clean, and thunderous. For the photo I used the MC601's Peak Hold feature.

I don't often listen to music that loud but when I do my friends and I enjoy Dos Equis.

Mahalo.......That is correct. I could have gotten the MC601's to peak above 1.2kw but I think the McIntosh Power Guard circuit would have been triggered.
