Cool, thanks for pointing the earlier post out. It's good to know Oppo cares about their customers long after the purchase is made.

I'm jumping in here because I am not allowed yet to start a new thread.

I have an Anthem AVM 60 processor for my Dolby Atmos home theater. Will the Oppo 105D reproduce the full Dolby Atmos effect when playing a Dolby Atmos BluRay disc, or do I need to purchase a different player? I've asked this question else where and got a semi technical answer I don't understand.

Thanks

Short answer: Yes.

Medium Answer: Yes but you have to use HDMI not analog outputs. You also have to set HDMI Audio output to bitstream.

Long Answer: Atmos can't be decoded internally by the Oppo. But it can send the original Atmos bitstream encoded information over HDMI to a compatible AV component like the Anthem. The Anthem can then decode it. Also the BDP105's benefits like the better DAC and analog stage are bypassed so a BDP103 would work just as well.

Even Longer Caveat: Some BD players have an option called: Mix Audio or Secondary Audio. These should be turned OFF. Secondary Audio is usually a special feature on some discs - such as a Directors/Writers/Actors Video or Audio commentary where they mix in a second audio track with the original movie soundtrack. For this to work, the original movie soundtrack has to be decoded first before the second track can be mixed in. That's why you may need to turn that off before Atmos would work.

Bonus Section - Last I checked, Anthem has a LOT and I mean A LOT of beta versions of their firmware designed to fix specific faults. If after all this it still doesn't work, you may want to contact Anthem support with the list of components you have and what faults you are getting and they may supply you with a specific patched version of the firmware.
