The 1:25 Step Up would be louder - so a direct comparison needs a level adjustment.
The 40 Ohm cart will sound closed in wit such a SUT.....
If you have the chance to record the two settings via a digital Workstation (I know it is digital....) - you can adjust both signals to exactly the same level - so a comparison ist very easy....

Thanks,
I'm not so much interested in the sound quality differences, but simply the amplitude of the signal (loudness)., produced by respective combinations
As a background- while I was waiting for my SUT, I used Shindo VR internal SUTs, that are presumably a low primary impedance (3-5 Ohm?) and high step-up ratio (25-30) variety.
Using Koetsu Urushi with internal impedance of 5 Ohm (close match with Shindo VR internal SUT), and output of 0.4 V.-
(volume control b/w 9-10 o'clock position)
Using Kiseki Purple Heart, internal impedance 40 Ohm, output 0.48 V., I have found, that the output was quite a bit lower (volume control b/w 11-12 o'clock position), than with Koetsu.
Using Kiseki with 1:10 Ypsilon SUT (volume is at appr. 10 o'clock position), the output was significantly higher, despite a significantly lower step- up ratio, than step-up ratio of the Shindo VR SUT.
Admittedly, Kiseki- Shindo SUT present decidedly significant impedance mismatch ( 5 Ohm SUT primary with 40 Ohm cart. internal impedance).
That experiment made me thinking, that there is more to the SUT output signal level, than just a step- up ratio and cartridge output.
Apparently higher impedance cartridge produced much lower, than expected output, paired with low primary impedance SUT.
I'm thinking, that pairing high internal impedance cart with lower primary value SUT, would result in a lower output, than when paired with the matched, high primary SUT, despite of the higher step-up ratio of the former, vs.the latter.

Default Hello to all

Hi Everyone,

I have been a member for many years but posting for the first time today. Why? I just learn that I need to post 10 times before I can start a new thread.

This is such a valuable forum. All those wonderful forum postings from many enthusiastic members convinced me to get Shindos and I am so happy with my decision.

Since I purchased my first "hifi" system (NAD Inte with B&W DM speakers) 19 years ago, I went through many different version of brands and systems. But, I have a feeling that I will settle with Shindo forever. I had similar feeling when I bought Harbeth with Music Reference RM200 many years ago but it's more strong feeling this time with Shindo.

I am not good at English writing. So, I shouldn't write too much. But, I am so exited to post here and looking forward to more conversation.

Here is my system:

Shindo 301 TT, A23 Hommage T1 SUT, VR, CC34, Devore O93, Ayre QB9, C.A.P.S. V2, Leben CS600, ClassicHiFi PSU for 301, PS Audio P5, KEF LS50, Shindo interconnects, A23 speaker cables

Shindojo-

That's a great turn table you have, and a nice system. I too love the sound of Shindo, and other high efficiency horn speakers with SET amps.

Hi,
Welcome to AA
I'm very much interested in your combination of Shindo Cortese WE300B and Avantgarde Uno.
Few members here alluded to potentially poor match b/w Shindo power amps and Avantgarde speakers.
Could you comment on the performance?, specifically gain structure, background noise, etc.
I do have Avantgarde Duo Omega G2 speakers and Shindo Vosne Romanee preamp, and was always interested in trying one of the Shindo power amps, but am kind of discouraged by the above mentioned comments. ( I use Lamm ML2 SET at the moment).
Appreciate your take in advance

Hi. I am a new member from Richmond Surrey England and I'm glad to be aboard. My system is still in progress (is not it always?) and I have just bought Concert Fidelity cf080lsx2 Line Stage Preamp that has replaced my Shindo Vosne-Romanee and I am tube rolling as we speak. I also have a Giscours but I prefer the V-R for my tastes. I shall read and pick people's brains as I go along. Cheers. Dave.
