Stopped by to fondle my 'some day will be mine' Kimber (if the state/local constabulary ever catches up on approving my paperwork). Very impressed with the fit & finish and especially the trigger when dry-firing. Probably force me to start shooting our Wed evening bullseye league come spring.

Did read an article in the previous issue of "Handloader" magazine where they compare various 1911s, including the Colt Gold Cup in 45ACP. They thought all were wonderful examples of the state-of-the-art in modern manufacturing where the slides were tight and the barrel/bushing fit was as good as it gets. All were very accurate. With the limited ammo tests they ran the Colt was actually the most accurate. I, again handled the Colt 1911 9mm today and its fit was as good as the Kimber and the S&W, but its finish did not stand up to the others.

After handling the Kimber and the S&W my preference for S&W got the best of me and I 'signed on the dotted line'. Now just have to wait the requisite 8-10 weeks to get my paperwork approved by the state of NJ and I'll be good to go.
8-10 weeks!?? for the gun or conceal carry? In GA walk in walk out takes 20 minutes....everytime

For the pistol-permit (the right to even own the damn, evil instrument of death, to say nothing of paper targets).
Conceal carry? That's a ticket to go straight to jail. Do not pass Go. CC permits in NJ-stan are far and few between. They must be renewed annually and approved by a judge. If federal law did not give retired law-enforcement (I use that term loosely) the right to carry, they would not be allowed to do so (NJ tried to prevent it). Almost no one gets a CC permit in NJ. My retired secret service friend is still fighting to get himself considered "law enforcement".
We have bills pending in the legislature that will limit magazines to 5rds, require a pysch evaluation (at the owner's expense, I am sure) and force a home inspection (invasion? - again, am sure at the owner's expense) by the police in order to own guns. Thankfully housing market is recovering so we can sell and move across the state line into our home in PA. We like living 'down the shore', but the crazy laws and taxes are driving us out.

Glenn, I've got a couple of Colts and a Kimber in my collection of 1911's but my Les Baer is without question in another league.

Ed Brown, Wilson Combat to name but two other premier 1911 mfg's

We have the USA still alive and well in WY, if fact they passed a law that if the feds come for your guns the fed agent gets a 50k fine and 5 years in WY State PEN

Yes....... I'm thinking that the custom guys have forced Kimber, S&W and Colt to offer their upgraded models. They were losing too many sales at that end of the market.

Dave - while I agree with WY's stance in spirit, if the Feds decide to come in we know who would win. But, don't think we have to worry despite all the craziness on both sides of the issue.

After 16 short weeks (not ) my pistol permits finally arrived. Now, per NJ law, I can pick up my new pistol with only another 2 week wait for the NICS check to go through. Got 3 permits, which are good for 90 days, so can, again, per NJ law, purchase a pistol every 30 days. The anti-gun folks are simply stupid on this issue. Think what would likely have happened if a CC person came along when the two crazies were attacking the unarmed soldier in England this week. Or the earlier unarmed folks the crazies who bombed Boston murdered.
