It is enjoyable now but I expect the sound to open up quite a bit more.
Can you say what this Glen mod is? Sounds intriguing - and sounds like teflon with the break in time you are talking about!

I had him replace 12 caps with V-CAPS, the CUTF type. And he replaced the main 6 tube sockets. The sockets have a tendency to get noisy if you tube roll. I think they start to lose their connection with the PCB.

Thanks. I'll look forward to your impressions after some hours. I became sold on increasing the quality of caps when I replaced new, but run of the mill caps with ClarityCaps esa series in the xovers of vintage AR2ax speakers. If I had to pick a single word to describe the change it would be "transparency". Not many people have done this with the SLP05, probably trusting that the factory caps are pretty decent quality to begin with.

Ha! A quick 1300 mile drive....It is actually tempting. I could tour the facility and drop by Moon Audio too!

You could stop in and visit Dennis Had and his audio/radio club too. They are all still right in that Cary, NC area and welcome visitors.

What are your impressions of the new caps so far?

In case anyone here is interested, I am selling my Cary SLP-05 acrylic cover.

For sale is a Cary acrylic cover for a Cary SLP-05 pre amp. This is a great way to keep the dust away.

I purchased this a couple years ago. It is the smoke colored version.

These cost $250 plus shipping. I am looking for $125 plus shipping to CONUS only.

Hi dminches

Did you ever try running your Ayre MX R's with the Cary SLP 05?

Just wondering if it is a good match.

Thanks

I did not but I am sure it is a fine combination. Both units are top notch.
