This is troubling. I wonder if waiting to buy just means one would likely get a returned/refurbished. I'd hope they'd disclose or price differently in that event. Ideally, I'd want one that is bug-free and truly factory fresh, never been shipped/returned.

The DAC in this is supposed to be somehow superior to the one in the 105, isn't it?

Hi aardvarkbark, From what has been mentioned on the forums yes it will be. But then again Oppo isn't saying much about the 205.

i've looked through the owners manual and through all of the descriptive information offered by OPPO for the 205, and can't find any reference to TIDAL or Spotify.

I use my Oppo 105D almost daily to play music from Tidal and it works quite well.

Lack of that streaming ability would be a deal-breaker for me.

I don't understand why not having streaming services like Netflix on the UDP-205 is a deal breaker. Don't most new sets offer these services already? There is an HDMI input on the UDP-205. Work arounds are available.

My gut tells me 4K streaming capability is on the way (if not here already) and that shouldn't be a show stopper for Oppo. I may keep my 105D in the server room from SACD ripping. Taking a serious look at 4K HDTV's right now.

Agree. I think that there are many different ways of streaming Netflix today and that is why Oppo decided not to include the app in the new models. Not to mention that the user interface of several of those devices (like Roku, Chromecast, Fire TV) make it easier to navigate Netflix. I can't recall the last time I used my Oppo 105 to stream Netflix. There are better ways to do that today.

As long as you have Fiber Optic service.

Oppo may come along with the UDP-205D with streaming capabilities after the sales peak of UDP-205's has been reached. A Darbee version with streaming will probably add a couple hundred dollars to the retail price. I'll probably wait and bite when that happens, if it happens.
