I heard the PL500 II at my dealer and was very impressed.
Far better than the PL300 II in direct comparison, which was nonetheless also very nice.
The 500 has a big, open and very holographic stage, with plenty of detail, extended top and a controlled low-section. Thankfully not smoothed-out but especially natural and dynamic sounding.

Heard also in direct comparison a pair of Sonus Faber Amati Futura.
Although the Amati is a very good speaker in its own right, the PL500 II was that much better in my vieuw.

The best: my dealer will set up a pair of PL 500 II in my listening room within a few weeks, to see if it plays as nicely as it did in the showroom. After that I will make a decision to purchase or not.

PL 500 II should replace my Elac, which I have for over 30 years now.
Still like them though.

If you get the opportunity to hear them at home, please report back.

Those are beautiful speakers I hope to hear at some point.

Try to hear them indeed. In my opinion they compete quite well with a lot of other speakers.

I will report back after the demo for sure.
It's scheduled for the first week of may, due to obligations at work and availibility of a demo pair of the importer.

As I've said almost a year ago, I absolutely love my PL 500's and honestly can't see owning other speakers. No absolutes in Audio and they're not for everyone, but after owning and listening to many speakers I'm happy.

Hi Ricjor1,

Very good for you that you love your speakers still after a year!
I heard them three times now at my dealer, where I had all the time I want to play my own music and to do the comparisons with the other speakers.

You have far more experience with the PL500's and this also in your own room, so did you experienced any (minor) flaws or are there otherwise characteristics that you did appreciate less than it's more stronger features.

Even it's possible that you can't mention any imperfections of note, which will be most appreciated!

Thanks!

stock78,

No speaker is perfect and I assure you some will be critical of the PL500's. To my ears the PL500's are chameleon like, changing with every recording...if the recording is bright, it will have some bite, good recordings sound good, great recordings sound great, bad recordings sound bad. The sound doesn't come at you like some speakers and they aren't laid back. They are detailed, open, dynamic(not as dynamic as Wilson's) and very, very musical to my ears in my system/room.

I had a couple people that I met on a different forum come to my house. Both brought their own music. One guy thought the PL500's were too laid back and the other guy stated, "at times they had too much bite."
