yes it is in fact this is why Stephen Hawking thinks it a big mistake to be broadcasting out existence out into space. A view that I also had long held. (and still do) |

By the way, some of the theories of the genetic tweaking to accelerate our evolution and intelligence by the aliens seem kind of plausible. There were some great shows explaining those theories. The aliens were not just looking to help us either, it was more likely to use us as labor force for their mining or other operations that they came here for. Boggles my mind now fast and far we have gotten in the past 50,000 years considering thats how long ago we have evolved into Behavioral Modernity and only 200,000 years since we have become anatomically modern of course originating in Africa. The technological progress in the last 100 years alone is just scary... |

It obviously is for advanced societies. I'm sure we are not alone in the universe where the evolutionary process of higher beings totally wrecked their planets. So in a way, it is a gamble to be advertising our existence for I am pretty sure not all higher alien beings will be civil when they discover another inhabitable planet with some weird creatures called humans ruling the roost. I am pretty sure it is a bit late for that and some of them have been here before and are aware. Some may just be exploring space and are curious, others may be studying us and strategizing how to exterminate us and conquer our planet best. I'm sure that is exactly what we would do if we had the means of reaching far away inhabitable planets and were in need of colonizing them. That day may come in the not so distant future. Just need to figure out the worm holes or how to bend time and space to make lengthy space travel more practical.

Music may be dying a slow death but at least one song will be around indefinitely.
More than 30 years after they left Earth, NASA's twin Voyager probes are now at the edge of the solar system. Not only that, they're still working. And with each passing day they are beaming back a message that, to scientists, is both unsettling and thrilling. The message is, "Expect the unexpected." "It's uncanny," says Ed Stone of Caltech, Voyager Project Scientist since 1972. "Voyager 1 and 2 have a knack for making discoveries." Today, April 28, 2011, NASA held a press conference to reflect on what the Voyager mission has accomplished--and to preview what lies ahead as the probes prepare to enter the realm of the Milky Way itself. The adventure began in the late 1970s when the probes took advantage of a rare alignment of outer planets for an unprecedented Grand Tour. Voyager 1 visited Jupiter and Saturn, while Voyager 2 flew past Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. (Voyager 2 is still the only probe to visit Uranus and Neptune.) Both Voyager spacecraft carry a greeting to any form of life. The message is on a 12-inch gold-plated copper disk (right) containing sounds and images that portray the diversity of life and culture on Earth. One of the musical selections on the Voyager gold record is Chuck Berry's 1950s hit Johnny B. Goode. Voyager 2 is escaping the solar system at a speed of about 3.3 A.U. (495,000,000 km) per year. Voyager 2 is the only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune. A 30-cm gold-plated copper disc, together with a needle and playing instructions, is mounted on the body casing. On it are recorded natural Earth sounds, 90 min of music, 115 pictures, and greetings in 60 languages. It is departing our solar system in a different direction than Voyager 1. |
