I was out of the country for a while, just got back the other day, and my neighbor had a box from Bryston for me. My BDP!
I got it plugged in and hooked up to the BDA-1 in under 10 min, just so I could hear a few hi rez songs I downloaded before I left.

Upon pressing the power switch the BDP goes through a boot up process, and then comes to a default screen on the display. I plugged in the two flash drives, the one from Bryston, and my 32 GB drive. After the unit boots up, you press the navigation buttons to find the USB device, and the songs you stored. Pretty easy once you get used to using the arrows and pause, play, stop and next buttons on the front panel.

I played songs from 3 albums. Moody Blues, Day Of Future Past, Eric Clapton, 461 Ocean Blvd, and Rush, Moving Pictures.

All the music sounded great, I was very impressed. Good bass, nice high end, nice soundstage, and clarity.

Today I went out and picked up a Ethernet switch to connect the unit to the network. That was a breeze. I tried to check for a firmware upgrade, after I got it connected to the network, but didn't get one to display on the screen, maybe because I have the latest version, already. Not sure, Still have to check that out. I also connected to the Internet Radio Stations Bryston provides and listened to some music there while I read the user guide.
I used the Desktop/Laptop Bryston MAX application to view the songs loaded in the 2 USB memory sticks, and created a playlist. I haven't downloaded the Minion Music Player Add On for Firefox yet, because it doesn't yet work in the latest version 5.0 of Firefox.

Overall, with just about 2.5 hours on the unit, I am pleased with my purchase. Next step is to get my USB hard disk connected to the unit.

Once I get to play with it more this week, I'll provide some more feedback.

Yes, the sound quality is at least as good; and many times I feel it's even better.

are you referring to the BDP-1/BDA-1 combo vs. the MCD500 ..
