New Vinyl or Old Vinyl re-badged
I have been on a mission to buy lots of new vinyl. I have received quite a few that are shrink wrapped, but certainly look like old used albums.
Corners cut, hole punched, overall shoddy condition visually but has new wrapping. I haven't opened any to inspect the vinyl yet. I buy most of my vinyl from Amazon and first rate sellers. I have only noticed this on half a dozen older albums. Thoughts...

Ivan.......From my years in the radio broadcasting business, my experience with albums with cut off corners, or ones that have holes punched through the covers is these albums are promotional copies, and not intended for commercial sale. Back in the day when radio stations were spinning vinyl, promotional copies were often sent or hand delivered to the stations, and the cut corner or the punched hole in the covers signified a promotional copy (not for sale).
The albums you have may well be brand new, and could have been acquired by a vendor in a warehouse closeout, or by other means, but there is no difference in the actual vinyl record, only in the manner it was intended to be distributed.

Dan is correct. Hole punched or cut corners simply means "non-returnable". In other words, the record labels will not accept these albums back as they were originally distributed as freebies, promotionals, etc. They could even be WLP.

Still, from a playback point of view, these albums deliver the same audio experience as ones without clipped corners, notches, or holes in the covers. Through my years on the air, I was given hundreds of promotional albums. The slight deformation of the album cover never effected my enjoyment of the vinyl, not even a little bit. Then again, I didn't have to pay for any of those albums, either.
