Yes, I cleaned all the tube sockets. Preamp issue solved. The DAC sounds very promising. Listening to Linn Broadcasting from the UK. I am letting it settle in with the stock tubes. The fit and finish is very good.

Nice. Glad it got there safely, up and working for ya. Please keep us posted on the next sound update after some burn-in time.

Will do. I'll swap some tubes after it gets 100 hours or so. The EZ80 rectifier is a Tungsram. The other tubes are Soviet.

It has Sprague caps as couplers. I will probably change them to what I was using in the Havana.

I put in a TungSol 5687 and Mullard EZ80. Listening to Roy Orbison a Black and White Night. Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Brown etc. are the band.

I really like this DAC and I think you will be very happy with the Orchid.

Nice, if you like it already, seems it could get even better with a little more simmering time 'eh? Just checked, you were right, in just 2 days after ordering my MHDT Orchid unit already landed on US western shores with USPS today.

Most buyers of these type of sub $1500 DACs are going to throw away the stock factory power cords and replace it with a good one. No need to include, ship it, or pay for it and then just zip tie it for a pile that just sits there.

And when they do include a power cord, I've come across a few different manufacturers over the past few years that will tell you, "we supply a low grade power cord, just to get you started" and "knowing our customers are going to replace it anyhow."

IMHO, power cords do sound different especially on digital sources. I have no idea why though. I won't spend more than $100 and I get them used. I am using a PS Audio AC3 on the DAC. I'll try a couple other I have just for 's.

Click the link and then see Mad Magazine's take on HiFi 1958. Little has changed.

There you go. Only $15. And sure, any hospital grade cord may work fine too.

Like others, I've been able to hear a difference with different type grade copper too. I don't buy the ultra high $ ones myself, but do use ones with Cardas wire inside.
