.380 Anyone?
Decided I needed a good 'pocket pistol', with my Ruger SP101 .357 being a bit too big and heavy under summer clothes. Have shot the Ruger LCP and did not really care for it. Been shooting my brother's Beretta Tomcat in .32ACP on occasion and really like it, but want a bit more 'umph' in my round. Checked out the LC380 (too big), Colt Mustang and the Sig P238, but settled on the S&W Bodyguard. My local gunshop is not very pleased with the new Colts and the Sig is not as comfortable for me as the Bodyguard. It fits my hand better than the others and gets excellent reviews. Biggest problem is finding ammo locally. Got 100rds of 90gr FMJ with the pistol and ordered 60rds of defensive ammo on-line, so should be able to run a bunch through it to break-in. Thee reviews I've read on these little pistols state that they need about 50-100rds to get them to break-in and function flawlessly. And, when needed, that's what we want. Picked up the DeSantis pocket holster and it really does work well with my baggie summer shorts. Now if spare magazines every become available.

Yeah...... nice pistol and very reliable and I used to have one. However, it really is uncomfortable to shoot it very much. At least for me. I even swapped out those hard grips for the Hogue rubber grips and it was only marginally better. Guess I'm just a recoil wuss. The newer designs are less 'blow-back' and considerably more comfortable to shoot than the older designs like the PPK, which must be going on 70 (oops - make that 84) by now. Has certainly stood the test of time. But, the newer pistols are much lighter and have better ergonomics. At least that is what my hand tells me after only 3-4 shots.

I've got the same as Ivan, but mine's an Interarms made model, about 15 years old.
It was always touchy with JHP ammo, tried a whole slew of the best, and cycling was never consistent. Probably needed some feed ramp radiusing-polishing. Never did it though, and thereafter for many years just resorted to using FMJ ammo. That was until I tried some Remington Golden Saber 102g JHP. I believe this is the heaviest commercial round in .380, has a Brass Jacket, and the nose is not quite as blunt as others. Thus feeding has been flawless with this round in my own PPK/S. Mark |

I have a Smith Bodyguard. It's been flawless right out of the box. No break-in required.

I have a blue model just like Ivan's. And that thing can shoot, too.

Stopped by a gun store today and the PPK/S .380 followed me home... I've only wanted one for over 25 years...
