Maybe, but have you heard a high powered Hegel amp? They might surprise you. I put mine up against Mark Levinson no.53 and my Hegel H10 did not back down.

Yep. Not even in the same league as the 911. But then again, nothing I've heard has been. We've reviewed about 400 products in the last 6 years and I've used the word "best" once, with the 911...
The Hegel stuff is very good, but not even close to the Burmester sound. It will be the same jump in performance you got going from the MCD 500 to your 089.. |

If you listen a mono-pair of 911's MK3 with pre Burmester 808 MK5, power conditioner Burmester 948, cd player Burmester 069 and loudspeaker Burmester B80 or B100, alla cabled by Nordost Odin, the word "absolute best reference" can be applied without any doubt. I've the lucky to own this system. Regards. |

Rocco, thanks for your opinion. Could you elaborate on this a little more? Since you have a top-of-the-line Burmester system, I image you auditioned the MBL before purchasing this reference system? How do they compare?

Shortly, I can simply affirm that at my ears the Burmester sound is more analog, natural, neutral and liquid/fuller sounding than MBL electronics. Besides, I found Burmester to be much more musical & magical. Burmester has better engineering, build, and ability to be future-ready. I think that Burmester is the only one that qualifies as an investment and offers the true o flong term ownership. Of course this is my opinion. Kind regards. |
