Default Cable Management

I always avoid walking too close to the back of my audio racks - you know why.

We have so many different cables, rca/xlr/usb/power/etc., long or short, thick or thin, shield or not. To reduce the number of equipments could ease the pain, but I am a believer of seporates. To make the cables as short as possible might help, but I move my equipments among my systems frequently. To have dedicated "room" to hide the cables would be ideal, but it's not for me (BTW, if you have not seen the picture of Ivan's cables on the back his wall of McIntosh, try to search for it. It's really impressive )

I bought some cable ties from Amazon, they did make my cables less messy, but they are still messy...

How do you manage your cables?

Saphana:

First I see how the power and interconnects are positioned on the components then find the best way to place the components where power is out one side and interconnects the other, then group the likes together and never intermingling power runs with interconnects.

Marc - Yes, if Ivan had to move it seems moving the actual house may be simpler.

How do you place power cable and others in different sides? To bind them with the rack poles?

It’s a puzzle or sorts, and in my case I work in cabinet’s so I have hole cutouts that are used as channels making it easier. I use all 2M cables that allow me to handle components in and out

(pretty impressive wall there!)

My main rack has a central back 'spine' with a metal screen. I zip tie all the power cords to that, as vertical as possible until the cord turns to the inlet of the component. The zip ties also keep the weight of the power cord off the IEC inlet. My main power conditioner is a Furman REF20i which is currently away from the rack. So all those power cords do get bundled together on the way to the rack. (I should make some way to separate them, at least by just an inch or so..

For IC, I let those wander any which way. Since they are away from the power cords. I used to try to buy IC to just fit. Now I have just decided to stick to 1.5m for all my general IC.
I keep the rack away from the wall. Actually my PS Audio P600 conditioner is behind the rack so I can always get behind it. Plus then the rack i close enough to my left to just reach over and back for the volume control from my listening chair... no remote needed.

This is the front of my cable wall (posted too many times, I’m sure)

This is the other side of the wall behind me, the Theater.

Thanks. I use racks with bare poles, so need to find a way to do the same.

I also use a REF20i and it is also in the back of the rack. But My rack does not have the ‘back spine’ so it’s hard to separate power cords and ICs.
