Thanks for clarifying that. I sounds like what my Panamax does. Whenever our voltage gets to 126 it kicks in a regulates the output to 116 or 117. I've never seen it at 120 like they show in their marketing materials. Thing is, once the high voltage protection kicks in and the output voltage is reduced (to 116 or 117) it never changes after that. If I reset the unit, it'll usually read something like 123 in and 123 out. I guess what I'm saying is that once the high voltage event has passed, the unit doesn't switch back to allow more juice.

Am I mis-understanding how this thing is supposed to work? Or are my expectations unreasonable?

In my experience removing the hash from the mains has a bigger impact than constant Voltage. A good power supply can accommodate quite substantial voltage swings at the input so constant voltage of the mains is less critical. I replaced a PurePower with a Torus AVR and never looked back. With what I know today, I wouldn’t even bother with the AVR version and just purchase the RM version. The relays of the AVR are rather noisy when they switch. I own a TOT and an AVR and they do exactly what is advertised. Excellent products and excellent support from Ross Whitney.

For the most part I agree with you. I had the Furman isolation transformer/filter and it did a good job. However when I looked at my home voltage with an o-scope and saw how distorted it was (3 to 4%) I decided to look for an alternative solution. When my voltage reached 127v (summer Heat) my system sounded much worse. Hence the P10. Now the ac waveform is always clean and sound quality is high and consistent.

Bryston sources their transformers from the same company that Torus does. I'm wondering if the Bryston BIT 15 is basically a re-badged Torus RM 15 for a couple hundred bucks more.

That I believe is correct.
I have a Torus TOT AVR and it works very well in my system.

I think you should read the white paper on the AQ website which adresses all these issues quite thoroughly. I think most well designed power supplies can deal with voltage fluctuations. Current compression is the problem. A power regenerator is basically another power supply. I don't want this. I want clean power and no current compression which must include the power cord and AC supply.

No, but I compared the McIntosh MPC1500 which is alleged to be built in part by Torus with an old noise meter. I got the idea from Shunyata Research videos.

Unscientific, but the meter confirms what my ears heard, and that's good enough for me.

On a scale of 0-100, with 0 being perfectly quiet and 100 is dirty unfiltered power from the outlet.

Panamax was about 1.8
MPC1500 was about 0.6
isotek evo3 sigmas was 0.2
Niagara 7000 was ~0.0-0.1 (it teetered back and forth)

I would have loved to demo a shunyata, but I didn't have any local dealer to let me play.

Also the MPC1500 and from what I was told the Torus, each outlet is not isolated from each other. One noisy electronic pollutes all the electronics.
