Default "Why PMC FB1i?", is the question I ask myself...

I've happily spent a lot of time and effort putting together a very satisfying system over the years and it just dawned on me that I have neglected one crucial part...speakers!

I've been living with Paradigm Monitor 7's very the better part of two years and I'm finally committing myself to purchasing something better. Something more on the level of the system components (McIntosh stuff). And now, after doing some extensive online research, I have landed in the land of PMC. How'd that happen?

I haven't even listened to the FB1i's yet, and still I feel like I'm gonna love them. Love is strong word, so I'll be happy if they show themselves to be levels better than the Paradigm's. Safe to say that they will?

Just a few more days before I sit down for a proper listening session, with the option to buy. Really looking forward to it.

-Mike

A single driver trying to reproduce mid-range and bass at the same time is not going to do a job at either.

Mike.......PMC manufactures an excellent line of loudspeakers. I own the PMC EB1i speaker that I use in my living room system. They are astonishingly good. I would suggest that you consider a PMC speaker that is a 3-way design because, as Bill pointed out, a woofer/midrange drive in a 2-way design can be a compromise to some degree. The PMC speaker that will definitely rise to the level of your gear is the PMC Twenty.26. It is a 3-way speaker with a 7" woofer loaded into a transmission line cabinet design, a very nice PMC designed dome midrange and dome tweeter. Try to audition these speakers if you can.

Thanks for the suggestions fellers. However, I failed to mention that I dwell in a small NYC apartment. If I had more space, I would be all over the larger models but seeing how I have to consider neighbors, I just can't do it. Not to mention overloading the room with low-end.

I'm using PMC twenty 21's with a McIntosh MC275 and they sound amazing for their small size. You could try those or the 22's. The floor standing 23's are also small. Supposedly the twenty five series sounds even better. Maybe your dealer will let you audition a pair at home. That's what I did and after trying around a dozen bookshelf speakers, the PMC was the clear winner for my specific space.
