Enjoying this beautiful recording again this morning:

Brahms: Volodos Plays Brahms
Arcadi Volodos, piano
Sony Classical (2017), 24/96 files

Volodos' playing feels relaxed while at the same time emotionally involved. This is beautiful music and Volodos conveys that beauty. Great sound as well, with nice sense of space and good tone and dynamics.

Default Bach: Goldberg Variations

Starting off the work week with...

Bach, J S:
Goldberg Variations, BWV988
Sarabanda con partite, BWV 990
Aria Variata in A minor, BWV989 ‘alla Maniera Italiana'
Matthew Halls (harpsichord)

A beautiful harpsichord recording that makes the instrument come through in a vivid, detailed and atmospheric manner. Oh yeah, the music is excellent too.

Beethoven: 26 Welsh Songs
From the Brilliant Classics Complete Works set

I’ve had this set for a few years but this is the first time I’ve listened to the songs - and it will probably be the last. Well done, good recording, but not my thing really.

Default Decca Sound The Analogue Years CD 4

Debussy - Préludes Book 1 - Children's Corner
Pascal Rogé, piano

Bonus:

Rêverie - L'isle joyeuse

Masterpieces of course, but the sound is a bit veiled in these recordings.

Default Schubert: Symphonies

This afternoon...

Schubert: Symphonies 3-6
The Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Claudio Abbado

Discs 2 & 3 of an excellent Collectors Edition box set from DG. New music to me except for #5.

The recorded sound is very fine.

One of my lifelong favorite works by Tchaikovsky. I discovered this composition for myself in the summer of 1982. This Naxos recording is from 1990 and I'm streaming it from Tidal via my Roon app.
