Well the real question is if the improvement is worth the hassle; I'm not sure I'd even want to change a cartridge again anytime soon. ;-)

Frankly I would have given it a shot by now if it didn't require redoing the azimuth.

For the price it is a no brainer. Bass is fuller and more defined. Soundstage also seems to be more holographic if you know what i mean.

One thing I have noticed and have determined. The amount of pre-load on the DP should be equal to the tracking force of the cartridge. Too much or too little pre-load seems to make the sound smeary.

To measure the pre-load, I weighed some double sided tape and added weight until it measured 1.5g ( my tracking force) I then put it on the right outrigger weight on my tone arm and adjusted the drop counter weight until it just barely lifted the DP off the skid plate. once done, i double checked to make sure my VTF was still good, adjusted AZ and off to the races i went.
This might be why there are different opinions. Looks like care should be taken when setting up the DP.

Paul,

I was a little concerned about the overall install and having to reset everything. But.... It turns out it actually makes setting up the cart a lot easier and quicker with out having the arm balancing and wobbling around.

The best thing is how easy it is to adjust AZ now... No more messing with counterweight... just adjust the set screw and done.

Added one to my Aries 3X3 and have enjoyed the improvement. As others have said requires a do-over on the setup parameters.

Vego99
Once you set the AZ you do need to adjust the side wt a bit to keep from getting too much VTF on the pivot point. It would be the wt opposite of the pivot point.

Great point! Ill have to check this to see where i am with things. This may make things a little more difficult as I have the Gen 1 12" 3d arm with the fixed counter weights. in my case i need to adjust the drop weight accordingly.

Not a big deal just some more fine tuning, the adjustable side counterweights are a nice feature!

Thank you.
Interesting. Is that a true bearing(s) or more of an anti-wobble device?
