I preferred the BHK. But then I’m partial to tubes. It’s two very different setups. PS Audio gear DSDAC with Bridge 2 BHK Pre BHK Monos The second was Linn Klimax DSM Dan D Agastino Master Stereo 2+ If i can get a loan of the Master Stereo 2+, I might want to see how it pairs with the Audio Research Ref 6.

Two weeks ago i had the same listening: 800D3 vs 802D3 at my dealers room.
That room was a bit overdamped for me, but one thing was very clear: More bass authority on the 800. And... I was asking him if i'm mad, but the 800 sounds clearer and a bit opener in the mids and higher mids. Ended up with buying a pair of white 802D3 as my room is a bit too small for the big bass of the 800. And the extra 8 grands are also too serious for my bank account... Together with my Nubert NuPower A (german manufacturer, very underestimated and way too cheap for what they do) it sounds very clear and powerful and i'm very happy with that decision. Also bought a DB2D-Sub. Wow! Before i had the wonderful N802 in cherry for 17 years. What an upgrade! |

I'm very happy with the decision and now i'm at the upgrade fever... Audioquest Niagara, better Power Cords and later maybe even better LS-Cables. Let's see. And work for the money... |

For the technically unaware it bears repeating... "the size of the room matters little". Put another way... "ANY size speaker can work in ANY size room". So if you want a pair of 800D3 and can afford them and if the foot print is not a concern for you then GET THEM! For a another take on the matter view the first five minutes of this video... Small room, big hi-fi system... Could it work?

Unfortunately, a typical room's floor is not designed to play well with low bass output. Then again Joey is not a typical consumer of HiFi either. So if an investment in a pair of 800D3 is going to be made then so should an investment on making the floor behave nicely (like removing/replacing the carpet, etc.). While I respect Joey's decision not to go down that path the conclusions for making that decision are in error. The problems he had are NOT do to the size of the room NOR are they do to the size of the 800D3. ALL ROOMS BIG OR SMALL HAVE ROOM MODES that must be delt with to achieve optimal performance. My B&W 800D2 do work in a small room (16,4' x 13,6' x 8.39' / 223ft² = 5 x 4.15 x 2.56m / 20.75m²). With correct placement and electronic room correction. I do not expect any problems when upgrading to the B&W 800D3. |
