Yes, technically its not "dead", but as useless as it is now, to the owner...it might as well be.

I absolutely agree that McIntosh needs to improve its service turnaround - there's no argument about that. But this is the first I've seen that the delay is nine months. It really reflects badly on the product if that's accurate.

Okay, understand all the frustrated reports regarding McIntosh repair service; maybe there should be a thread for that.

It doesn't help Citroen, the OP resolve his issue.

Best Sir,

Bob

I bought it secondhand about a year ago, and this has only recently occurred.

When it has been stuck in tube warm-up mode all I do is flick the power switch at the wall off and back on and its fine.

Bob, if its a possible tube fault I have some Psvanes that I could try. But crossing fingers, the problem hasn't returned this past week.

On next occurrence, suggest you swap out all six 12AX7's with your Psvanes. It could be a tube your not using (either MM or MC) and at turn on -- it's not cooperating with the software handshake.

All of us at AA hope you can put this annoyance to bed.

Best to you Sir,

Bob

Just curious...is that how the tube warmup function works? I had pretty much assumed the cycle was was simply set for a fixed amount of time before the output circuit was allowed to pass the signal.

In any case, wouldn't all green tube indicators suggest the tubes are probably not the problem?

Pretty much so. Handshake basically w/no timer preset.

Not necessarily; a filament slow to light or reach target. It's a light show; not a troubleshooting aid.

Best Sir,

Bob

That's Okay -- swap out the line stage and if you are using phono side -- swap out whichever you are using (MC or MM). Should the problem continue, take out whichever phono Psvanes you are using and put them in the phono side that you weren't using. Put the original tubes back in the phono stage you were using. For this troubleshooting effort --leave the Psvanes you put in the line stage.

Hope that is clear as mud.

Best Sir,

Bob

A week with no problems, so thought it was just an aberrant fault.

But alas, its now stuck in no man's land - VU meters and red lights all on, but no screen display. Powering off and on, holding power button etc does nothing.

So have dropped it off to the NZ importers. Looks like it will be about two weeks to be looked at, let alone fixed. Oh well...
