The Dark Tower
It doesn't look too bad at all... A bit of The Matrix and Lord of the Rings?

Sort of a mini spoiler included
The trailer is indeed very promising. I read all of the books and the one complaint along with the others that have read them, and this is no way a diss to Idris Elba, is that Roland the title character was white. The reason it was significant was there is another character Susanna that is black and hated Roland when they met. If you read the books you understand the tie in and as usual something significant happens later in the books. It was a way of addressing racism and the reasons behind it. I will probably go see it as I rarely go watch movies in the theater any more.

I agree with Sharp on this one. Roland was most definitely white and without giving away spoilers for those who have not read the books, this point is not just a fleeting aspect of the story, but a reoccurring theme in the dynamic between Roland and Susanna. When I read the first few books back in the 80's there was only one person in my adolescent mind who could play the roll of Roland. Clint Eastwood...hands down. I know that's not feasible now, but back then he would have been perfect for the roll.
I'm interested in seeing how they play it now with Elba as the lead. Regardless, I am extremely excited for this movie. I've had my hopes up for this series to go to film ever since I read the first book. Fingers crossed that Hollywood doesn't muck it up. |
