Marc, I heard them at RMAF last year also, and they were (as most always) exceptional. Avalon makes some first rate speakers and they are worth seeking out for an audition if you are willing to pay the price of entry. It seems odd that they were not anywhere to be found at RMAF this year? They were not hiding in some high dollar electronics room somewhere? Very odd indeed.

Blu Note Audio out of Denver used to have a static Avalon display at RMAF, but I believe they closed years ago. It is interesting Avalon doesn't attend being somewhat local (Boulder). I heard the Isis years ago and was very impressed.

The room was Auralic's, and they wanted to showcase the DSP capabilities of their products, much to the detriment of overall performance.

Jonathan Valin had some less than kind words for RMAF 2018.

On a more pleasant note, I thought there were several rooms that featured small stand mounted speaker systems that sounded really good. I took away quite an impression with that.

As far as the above article, I agree with his sentiments about the Voxativ system. I hung around that room for quite a while.

Default RMAF 2018 A.A. Show Report & Pictures

I’ve been so far successfully resisting peer pressure from my fellow show attendees (Ron, Buck, Steve, Marc, Brian...you know who you are!) to commit to the Zesto Andros Deluxe phonostage. I did, however, just take advantage of the show discount offered by Jack Wu of Woo Audio to order a Woo WA8 Eclipse headphone amp.

Congrats! I have the WA6. Jack Woo makes some nice head amps.

This has been a fun read. I missed this year to go trekking in Peru, which may be a much cheaper option than attending the show!
