I tried cheater plugs: no improvement

I have a P10 ... the P10 also hums :-)
Many people on the PS Audio forum complain about humming power plants (incl the p10)

I'm starting to believe it is linked to each individuals power set up and devices used around the house. Don't think it can be resolved.

That's a bit ironic, no?

UPDATE: I did end up getting the Emotiva CMX-2...AND IT WORKED! What's interesting is that as of yesterday, that unit is temporarily unavailable for some reason. Seems a lot of their gear is unavailable. Glad I got it when I did.

That's good news. I'm glad that doodad did the trick. There have been other success stories here with it as well.

got lucky I guess, I've heard it works for some and not for others. For the price, very worth it. half the price of the discontinued PS audio unit

Glad to see it worked for you. There are two reasons for acoustic transformer noise - DC on the AC line or poor design and construction of the transformer itself. I think McIntosh understands how to design and build good transformers, so by process of elimination it’s DC. Congrats - enjoy the quiet!
