Default Linn Audio

Does anyone here own or have any opinions on Linn Audio? not their TT's

.....They make everything in house just like Mc
.....discontinued their CD players at the end of 09' in favor of hi-rez format.
......promotes the "single-stage build", where one person is responsible for the entire process of assembling a product.
......championed the "source-first" doctrine

What is a Studio Master?

'cisco.....: I second Dan's advice.
I'm always surprised by the fact that audio gear demos are made with top notch recordings. Both dealers and customers use them.
When I demo an audio unit, I want to know how it sounds with less than ideal recordings.
I tend to like Linn gear : my Linn Classik sounds very good with the Tannoy Autograph Mini. It is rather forgiving with poor recordings. It is a great unit for a room system : integrated amp, cd, tuner, and dac, with Linn build quality ( ) for a nice price ! And I enjoyed my Linn Kairn preamp during many years, even with my 275 power amp....untill I got the C220. The Linn Keilidh speakers gave me also years of musical bliss and were one of the best value in audio at that time. I still have them : they will be for one of my kids when he / she will ask for a decent system.
Not to mention the wonderful Linn Ikemi drive ( integrated cd player also ) used in the MCD1000 also....
But their higher level units are very revealing. And VERY expensive IMO.
Many discs are just not listenable then.... : but if you're going to use only audiophile high rez files, why not ?
My best friend has their top of the line Komri / Klimax system. He is highly frustrated with lots of his discs, but still thinks his system is the best he ever heard with good recordings....
