VPI launched their new website today, the only "production" tables are the Player, Scout and two Primes. Seems like the Classic has no future.

It's Mat's company now!

I'm aware, just kind of shocked that such a popular TT would be discontinued. VPI posted that the Classic series is "being phased out, but the Classic Signature will still be available in participating countries."

And while I am sure the Prime/Prime Signature sound great, each model has its inherent strengths, the Classic's being pitch stability and excellent built in isolation (my 'table sounds great sitting on a plain wooden table). The Classic was Harry's design. I guess they're going for the younger crowd. While I think they offer too many Classic versions at present (especially with the Prime not being all that expensive and good price to performance), they ought to at least keep the Classic Signature in the lineup.
Well said. Love my Classic Sig.

I just recently bought a used 30th anniversary Classic , and I am absolutely amazed with this table.
I know that mine is the bottom of the barrel for the Classic series.
But I can say without a doubt, this is my last table.
Throwing my Rega rp6 in the trash.

Okay, so old thread but brought back memories. Since receiving my Aries 3D (which I loved), I purchased on of the last Classic Direct Drives that Mat could build before ramping up HW40 production. I love this table and it is far superior to my Aries 3D using same Ortofon A95 cartridge. Definitely my last table ever.
