I have a Inspire SEP amp that uses 4 6550,KT-88 etc, I love the amp and am interested in what an Inspire amp with 300b tubes would sound like and how it would compare to my amp.Has anyone had a chance to listen to both.

There is an Inspire 300b for sale on audiocircle. I exchanged some emails with the seller via his CL ad since he was close to me. Might want to contact him and hear what he has to say about it.

Hi,
I have an Inspire SEP and have heard the 300B amp as well. It really comes down to the tubes used in each. There are more differences in tube combinations then there are inherently between the amps. The sound can be tuned with various input, power and rectifier tubes. Some combinations sound much better than others and this is true for both configurations. Overall the 300B amp probably can produce the biggest soundstage similar to a live performance. However tone and punch can possibly be better with the SEP.

Default Inspire LP-3a preamp.?

I have a Inspire LP-3a preamp with a 4 pin socket for the rectifier tube and I notice some LP-3a’s have an 8 pin.Does anyone know when this change was made and why.

Hey hood_1, the 6V6-H comes with 6V6's and can run 6F6's.
The amp is neither Triode nor Ultralinear, it is configured in Pentode mode.
As to which sounds best, Triode mode, Ultralinear mode, or Pentode mode, that would be a matter of personal preference.

Hey bwilson51, in regards to 4 pin vs 8 pin rectifiers, I believe Dennis became frustrated with people plugging in the 4 pin rectifier backwards and therefore went to the conventional 8 pin rectifier.

This is a custom amp Dennis designed and Straitwire built for me.
To reiterate what Straitwire said, it is personal preference. I asked specifically for full pentode wiring because I like the way pentodes sound. Dennis makes most of his new pentode speaker amps triode strapped tho, but I have no idea how those sound, never heard one. I own his kt88 firebottle for speakers as well, but that also has full pentode wiring.

The amp can also run a wide range of pentodes from 6v6/6f6 + 6l6/kt66/kt88
I personally like kt66 in it the best. They have more oompf than 6v6/6f6 and (imo) have better tonality than kt88.

On the note of 6f6, I know a lot of people have been loving that tube with Dennis's pentode amps, but they weren't my jam. I only have the glass bottle versions, (no metal), but they just didn't sound great to me.

Nice 5Z3 and 80 rectifiers usually sell for less than their 8 pin counterparts.
