It's in the neighborhood of 3.5-4.5 watts. Mine makes about 3.5 watts, but I don't push the 45s hard since I'm trying to make them last. Dennis would prolly be able to get 4.5 watts.

Mine was built under Dennis' guidance and oversight. I do things a little differently than he does, like use pure solid 20 gauge silver wire on the signal input side and over engineer the power supply. But, he loves the way mine sounds, and the only reason he hasn't built one or more 45 PSE amp is that he is too busy building amps that have already been paid for.

Trying to remember ... at some point I think I read about people trying two different types of power tubes in their Inspire PSE. Or am I dreaming? Like using two KT77 and two 6550, one of each in each channel. Anyone actually do this?

Yes, the PSE has 4 individual auto bias circuits. You could roll 4 completely different tubes but mix and matching pairs seems more logical. Roll away.

Is it possible to use a set of headphones using the second RCA Out of the LP-27a, I can't afford a seperate headphone amp right now but I also dont want to damage the preamp.

I have 32 and 200 ohm headphones

Thanks,

Lee

Typically a tube preamp has a high'ish output impedance, frequently from 600 to 1200 ohms. I don't know the spec for the LP-27. They are designed to drive high impedance amplifiers, usually 30K ohms to 100K ohms.

If you use them to drive a very low impedance device, such as a headphone, they become very non-linear. This can result in high frequency roll-off, increased distortion, and poorly damped low frequencies.

A solid state preamp's line outputs wouldn't be ideal for a headphone but generally much better than a tube preamp's line outputs.

If you'd like to add headphones on the cheap, there is the Schiit Magni at just $99. Gets decent reviews. Connect to your preamp using the line level outputs, has its own volume control, can drive headphones of varying impedances as it's headphone output impedance is less than 0.3 ohms.

That is what I remembered but wasn't sure. Don't have one, just curious. I guess one could come up with some interesting combinations.

I though I saw a post by someone that did that. KT77 with 6L6 or KT66's. I imagine there could be some excellent pairings. But I don't have one either.
