Has anyone compared Gen 5 Ultra balanced interconnect to Gen 5 Reference balanced interconnect? I might have to make that choice. I haven’t heard the Reference yet.

In my opinion, ic's don't make much difference, power cords and speaker cables make more. |

What speaker cable did you have before Reference and did you go all Gen 5 or all MM2 (Gen 4)?

I owned TA Reference MM2 and upgraded to the XL Gen5 for my main system. I also use TA Ultra Gen5 for a secondary system. I have listened to the Reference Gen5 at my dealer. The Ultras’ are very good cables and I am happy with them on my secondary system. The Reference Gen5 have a bit better dynamics, more life and better attack. When you compare each successive level of TA signal cables or power cords you can hear the improvement.

I went from Super MM2(gen 4) throughout to Gen 5 Reference. After upgrading to Gen 5, I bought a new center channel and upgraded the speaker cables to Reference but forgot to order the IC. The sound out of the mains compared to the center channel just wasn't right. My wife bought me the Gen 5 IC last Fathers day and movies sound dynamic, crisp, and even throughout. For stereo, the change from MM2 to Gen 5 was huge. A lower noise floor and better imaging were immediately noticeable. I wouldn't have noticed before the switch but the change sounded like moving from the back of the concert hall to the sweet spot. Everything was less veiled. Upgrading PCs on amps and pre made big improvements in dynamics and punch. Very nice upgrades IME.

I know others say there is a lot of difference wrt ic's, but my experience was just not as profound. SC's were. |

Gen5 Reference SC have more resolution and bass is more tight and solid compared to Ultra G5 SC. But You should give Reference more than a week to warm up. Because mine was sounding terrible right out of the box.

Transparent Audio Cable
Does anyone know how much performance is gained by having the IC cable tuned to your components?
