I have been enjoying 805 matrix for last 15+ years, but have the “upgrade bug”.
Was auditioning the 805d3 and 804d3 driven by Mac. Sounds good but after reading this and other threads about how good the new 803 and 802 are, I will definitely go back and audition them.

A quick update. Today, I spent a wonderful 3 hours auditioning the 802d3 and 803d3 and HTM1 D3 at a local dealer. The L/R were driven by MC611s, and the Center with MC452. The AV process was McIntosh. The Blu-Ray was Oppo 205. I believe the cables were cardas.
From Jazz to Classical, the music flowed beautifully, the soundstage is incredible.

At the end, I put in an order for 802d3 and HTM1. Can’t wait to bring them into my living room! Next steps are the amplifiers. The MC611s seem to pair well with the 802. I currently have the Bryston 9B ST, and may want to look also at the new Bryston cube.

What gave the edge to the 802d3? I assume deeper bass and larger soundstage? Will you be using sub?

Hi,
Yes, it's deeper/tighter bass, and sound stage was larger. Also, I may move to a larger room so I thought going with the 802 would be better, although the 803 is no slouch.

I currently have the 805 so am using a sub (Talon Roc 2000). Once I have the 802s, I will assess if the sub would add anything. I am 70% music / 30% movies.

I was torn between the 802D3’s and 803D3’s but went with the 803’s as I have dual JL Audio F 13’s. I figured they would compensate for the weaker bass but wasn’t sure about the mid range as the 802’s have a larger mid range driver. I am about 80/20 music to movies and definitely love my system.
Enjoy your speakers!

For me, it was the larger midrange driver that gave the edge to the 802d3 over the 803d3. I was comparing them side by side all the way to the end, right when I had the dealer charge my card.

Can I ask what amplifier you use to drive your 803?
The MC611 I auditioned with the B&Ws was great but a tad warm for my ears. I guess I am used to the Bryston "sound". I am thinking about auditioning the new Bryston 7b cube.

I am using a Classé 2300 and biamping with 2 unused channels from a Classé 5300.
I have been wondering if either the Macintosh 611 or the new Bryston cubed would be an improvement. My problem is there is no dealer close that carries both brands. Closest Bryston dealer is several hundred miles away.

Having said this, I am pretty happy with the Classé. I have just been wondering how the B&W’s would perform with additional power.

I believe Classe was a partner of B&W so I am sure it must sound great with your B&W.
The MC611 I auditioned drove the 802 effortlessly and I felt it still had plenty of power to spare. I am lucky that my dealer carries both the Mac and Bryston, so I will ask him to set them up with the 802.
