Listened to the 702... it is a good solid speaker. Midrange is very.... familiar now. Two thumbs up.

How would you contrast it against the 800 series you’ve heard Joey?

The German Magazine AUDIO VIDEO is the ones doing a review on the 703s2's right now!
Here's what Audio Video magazine gave the 804 D3's They got a A rating! https://translate.google.com/transla...804-d3?start=5 The Magico S3 MK2 got a A+ rating from Audio Video Magazine only because they had more bottom-end than the 804 D3's had! Last edited by Rick721; 11-10-2017 at 01:49 PM. |

A very nice technical evaluation too, with responses shown at various angles from the tweeter reference. Somewhere around 25 degree off tweeter H axis and at tweeter height seems to be optimum.
For those with a tech interest, the peculiarities noted in the vertical plane are due to the crossover design, which achieves phase coherence mechanically instead of electrically; The tweeter is advanced by 0.5 wavelengths at the XO frequency. Listening at 25-30 off-axis, and at tweeter height, corrects the amplitude alignment, so this must be the designed listening axis. The suck-out above tweeter axis does have the effect of correcting the power response peak at that frequency, which is a consequence of a large diameter mid driver handing over to a small tweeter with a large beamwidth. That's a good thing in lively rooms. The small dip around 2kHz is the only negative consequence and is relatively minor. From experience it can make the speaker sound a little laid back in the presence region, but such a characteristic is preferred by most listeners anyway, and especially so with classical music. Just back from an audition of the 705S2, and was very impressed. The bass extension and definition was outstanding for a 2-way stand-mount, but it's in the mids and treble where this speaker really shines. I haven't heard any other similarly sized and priced 2-way that comes close to this level of reproduction, and in certain aspects it gets scary close to any speaker at any price.
I can also report that the speaker is soon to be reviewed by Soundstage Australia. http://www.soundstageaustralia.com/ http://www.soundstageaustralia.com/i...702s2-speakers AV Last edited by Art Vandelay; 11-23-2017 at 11:47 PM. |

I have since a few weeks the 702s2 in my second system (driven by a Mac MC-5200) and it sounds really fantastic. In my first system I have the 803d3 with Classé and this difference is minor between both...why did I buy the 803d3 ?
