Seems to me your front end is a severe weak point, look at a Aurender and a decent DAC

Not really, it's used in the digital domain..Devialet have the dacs included.
If Devialets' AIR wireless protocol worked properly..I would send the digital signal wirelessly to them .. but it doesnt

Hello and welcome to the forum Rodney. I remember you from another forum (the asylum) years gone by. I posted mainly in the music lane as it was called, back in late 1999 through 2001. I have always found your postings thoughtful, informative, and precise. Enjoy!!!
As for the OP, I find my expense the greatest on the speakers. I can always work backwards as the times and technology changes for my components. For now I am completely satisfied as I am not getting any younger, and I find myself needing to enjoy the music. Regards

Hiya , yep I used to post and moderate at Audio asylum .. what was your nickname there?
I still go onto their IRC chat room now and then Im also not getting younger .. sold a few yank muscle cars (vettes) that were gathering dust in the garage and sunk it into hifi.. much better "investment" I would never have got the speakers I have (giya g1 and now g1 spirits) without the room , which I consider the most important and the best bang for the buck albeit its not the most expensive component

Rodney, I went by the nickname of Small Soldier and frequently posted on the music lane forum. I enjoyed the posts that folks like "John E", "petew", and "Rob" would make on the forum. It saddened me hearing the passing of Rob. Good to see that you are still involved in audio. I agree with your comments on having the right room and your setup is quite remarkable.
In line with the original OP, I too spent time and money on room treatments. Getting the right acoustical treatment as well as electrical/ power conditioning setup. The electrical/power conditioning was the first step in conjunction with the purchasing of the equipment. After the equipment, speakers, and seating/furniture were placed, the acoustical panels and bass traps were placed to best dampen the room. Regards

I also did the power thing .. but more cos of surges, brownouts and rolling blackouts
I use a 5kva pure sine wave inverter to power the room , fed off banks of batteries which are solar charged.. My room is always evolving .. busy with 20" diameter 8ft tube traps .. Im replacing all my flat traps with them .. I need 12 .. a massive DIY project .. apart from low bass trapping , 1/2 the diameter of the traps is diffusion and the other 1/2 absorption so you can tune the room by rotating them.

I feel speakers should have a higher value compared to electronics. My system is about $30k, roughly 20 for speakers , 7 for electronics, 3 or 4 for room treatments, cabling, racks, isolation etc. Personally I've been more impressed with expensive speakers on good affordable amps, etc then with mediocre speakers on expensive gear. I also feel speakers should be the foundation of which to build on, for future upgrades and enhancements. This of course could allow the ratio to eventually become much more balanced.

Yeah, I have been a hardcore Linnie myself, slowly letting go without always think source-first. Nothing wrong with that but nice to think different now |
